Restoring Tradition: Classic Blue & White Boat Upholstery Revival

The customer had owned this boat for many years. It was originally white with blue stripes, as shown in the original pictures. The boat had previously been reupholstered in grey, and as this was showing some wear, the owner wanted to take the boat back to its original colouring and details.  He provided Phil with some original pics and also lots of inspiration pictures for reference.

Phillip started by stripping out the trim from the boat and measuring and ordering the new fabric from the Pacifica range from Wiggins, which has a fantastic range of colours that could create the effect the customer wanted.

Once Phillip had removed everything, some of the timber was found to be rotting and needed replacing. Phillip worked with the customer to remedy this and replace these pieces with new timber. He also replaced the parts of the foam that were sagging with new pieces to maximise comfort.

Next for Phillip was cutting and stitching the panels. He was very careful to make sure all the stripes matched across all seats and panels for a top quality look. He added dark blue piping to make the colours a four panel repeat and match the ‘before’ photos perfectly.

The final piece of the puzzle was the Captain’s Chair which was the most used item in the boat and therefore had the most wear. Phillip completely replaced all the foam to make it plush and ensure it lasts another 25 years. He also added a pocket at the back for storage and to match both the original and inspiration pictures.

The boat looks sensational! And the client was thrilled with the results. Next is updating the bimini to match the new colour scheme and finish the look.
