Full Interior Revival: 1957 Buick Estate Wagon (Caballero)

Phillip completely retrimmed the interior of Dave’s 1957 Buick Estate Wagon (Cabellero).

He started by stripping the existing interior completely out. Step one was to paint the floor with an anti-rust paint in black.  Followed by applying DynaMat, a sound deadening product that reduces road noise.  Next was applying a sound deadening foam over top of the Dynamat to make the car ride as quietly as possible.

Then it was onto the fun stuff, constructing the headliner using perforated white headliner vinyl which was sourced from Le Mans, specific to the year the car was manufactured.

Following this were the seats that were altered from the original design as per the customers request, and this was a great decision as they look fantastic. They were altered to visually resemble two seats instead of the original bench seat that was covered in one colour.

Phillip then made new door cards and added extra fixing points to ensure they would remain secure in place before the final cover and fit. The choice to go with white carpet originally looked great, but as the vehicle was used, it became apparent that it was never going to maintain a flawless appearance. We have since changed to a red carpet which will be much easier to maintain than the white.

Phillip then repainted all the steel trim in the Buick including window surrounds, the internals of the seats and all mounting points for them. He resprayed the dashboard and wrapped the top with red leather, also added fine red rings to all the dials to tie it all together.

There is nothing on the inside of this wagon that Phillip did not touch, and he is thrilled with how it turned out.
